My family and I are really blessed to have a great park system in our city. We not only have phenomal parks that include playgrounds and free splash pads, but we also ahve a great biking and walking trail system that stretches throughout our entire system.
Ever since moving to Fort Wayne almost four years ago, we have made it a point to “discover” all of our local parks. Each year we try to get more and more of the parks we haven’t had a chance to visit yet. Being a frugal family, we are so happy that we have such a great system of parks that are local, amazingly fun, and of course free.
CRUNCHY FAMILY CELEBRATES NATIONAL PARK AND RECREATION MONTH
My youngest daughter, Bayla, is always bugging me to take her to the Rivergreenway. This is a great system of walking and biking trails that run along the three rivers that run through our city. We have been really busy lately, but I figured to help celebrate National Park month we would get outside more and head to the bike trails!
I am pretty passionate about getting my kids outside and active, and our park systems help me do that! I don’t have to nag the kids to get outside. All I have to do is let them pick their favorite park, and let the adventure begin.
If you live in the Fort Wayne area, make sure to check out the park system at our Parks and Recreation deparment. They have fantastic parks throughout the city including a boundless park that was built to let ANY child play! It’s located at Kreager Park!
TAKE THE GET WILD PLEDGE
July is National Park and Recreation month, and this year they are challenging you to “Get Wild!” Our family has already taken the Get Wild Pledge, and we can’t wait to take part in the Get Wild Geocaching Contest! It’s really easy. All you do is grab your free Geocaching membership and download a free application to your smart phone and get ready to discover!
LEARN MORE FROM THE NATIONAL PARK AND RECREATION ASSOCIATION
Getting out in your local parks is a great way to stay healthy and active, but make it a little bit more fun by learning more about National Park and Recreation month! To learn more, make sure to visit the NRPA website and Get Wild this July!
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of National Recreation and Park Association and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Sounds like you have some great parks near by! Since moving I’ve loved checking out the new-to-me parks – when the weather is a bit cooler anyway.
Your park system sounds lovely! I have always wanted to try geocaching too.
We are very blessed to have such a great park system in our city. No better way for free fun.
I totally agree! Getting out everyday and enjoying our parks is a great way to stay healthy and have great family time. Thanks for the reminder
I love geocaching. I really need to get started doing this with my family!
Sounds like fun! I love hiking with the family!
Whirlwind of Surprises
Geocaching sounds like so much fun. My kids are just getting to the age where I think they would love it.
That’s great you make an effort to get your kids outdoors!
