How do you blogJust starting your business or figuring out how to blog? Well, guest posting is a fabulous way to get your business name out there, and expose your ideas to new readers and clients.

If you follow these few tips, your guest posts won’t only be fabulous they will help grow your business and get you the traffic you were looking for!

Pitch the “right” sites: When you are looking for guest posting opportunities, make sure have an idea who your audience is. You wouldn’t ask to post your favorite meat pie recipe to a vegan blog! (If  you would, then we have more work to do) That makes no sense!

The best way to gauge your audience is to look at what posts have the most interaction! Where are the most comments and shares? After you have figured that little piece out make sure the website is one that you wouldn’t mind having your business associated with.

Guest post for a variety of sites: When you start trying to guest post, you will hear a LOT about Google Page rank. My two cents, ignore it! Just make sure that you guest posts for a wide variety of sites.

Look for sites with large readerships and some with smaller. Also don’t forget to look for different types of sites. Social media sites, blogs, business websites; mix and match the sites you write for to get maximum exposure. Just make sure that your content is amazing and relevant!

Include fabulous images: Articles that include great images are not only “pretty”, but they also keep the audience engaged. Have you ever looked at a wall of text and just died to know what the page held? Nope, me neither. Great images help catch the eye, and they give more time to lure your readers in! Just don’t forget to use your own images or give credit where credit is due!

Spelling and grammar count: There is nothing worse than sinking your teeth into a really interesting article and not being able to read it! Spelling and punctuation are a must.  Even if write in a more casual style, you still need to write like you were taught how to read and write. Readers will run the other direction if they can’t wade through your bad grammar.

Write with passion and conviction: When you first start out, I highly recommend finding a topic that you are just biting at the bit to write about! Write about something that makes you salivate, and it will come through in your writing. There is no better way to get your audience excited than to write with passion!

Help Drive Traffic: When you agree to guest post, help promote the post! It not only gets your readers to the post, but it shows the other site that you are willing to develop a great relationship. You are getting access to their readers, and by promoting it as well, you are showing you go the extra mile.

Developing positive relationships is just as important as writing quality content. The more relationships  you build, the  more guest posts that might roll your way.

These are just a few tips to get you on your way to having a successful guest posting experience. Clear and open communications, concise writing, passion, and fabulous presentation are the key ingredients to seeing your posts take off! Next time you go to look for a guest posting opportunity remember these quick tips to make your next post fantastic!

  1. Thank you for the tips! I was asked to guest post on another blog awhile ago, and just have not had the time yet! Today is the day, I’m off to write an amazing guest post, and take some amazing pictures to go with it!

  2. Great article. Going to bookmark this. What is the challenge though?

  3. Shai Smit says:

Thanks so much for your tips! I have a contributor spot on a fairly popular blog. But, today, I’m going to scan through a ‘guestbloggers’ document and see if there is anything I can contribute to other blogs over the next few weeks! ♥

    Heading to do that now!

  4. I have done some guest posting, and had a couple of people guest post for me. Honestly, I promoted like crazy when people guest posted on my site, and was really disappointed when they didn’t promote my site. If I’m giving someone the opportunity to guest on MY site, that’s just rude for them not to promote it! I guess they don’t get it. What’s the purpose in guest posting if no one sees it? I, as you suggested, also promoted other sites when I was their guest. It’s the right thing to d0:) Thanks for the info!

  5. Thanks for the tips. I need to do more guest posting when I get caught up.

what is the condition we have to fullfil the mini challenge?

  7. I have always been afraid to query a guest post. I pitched after reading this and got an immediate yes! Guest post going live in 5, 4, 3, 2…..

  8. Leila says:

Thanks for the tips! I have only guest posted once previously and it wasn’t even a guest post, it was an interview type thing. I will definitely keep these tips on hand when doing guest posts in the future!

  9. Kecia says:

I actually did a guest post during the blogathon (It was due this weekend so I HAD to get it done). Thank you for these tips – I have been sticking mainly with guest posting on blogs within my niche. Looks like I need to branch out!

  10. jen says:

Great information… will be bookmarking for future reference!

    Cheers

  11. Thanks so much for these tips. I’ve just written my 3rd Guest Post and I think I used most (if not all) of these tips.

  12. I’ve never guest posted for anyone before – But I now have a list of 10 bloggers to contact, and ask if I can post for them. Great tips – thanks!!

I don’t see anything here for the challenge task? I’m going to guess that setting up a schedule for guest posting is a step towards getting it done finally, so I’ll mark this challenge complete on the RC… Let me know if there’s more we should do!!

  13. Kathleen says:

Sorry guys didn’t see till now that there was no specific challenge for this. If you read the post and thought about it, you completed it. Go ahead and claim in on the RC. I will check before drawing winners and if you didn’t see this or my other notes to you in time, I will add it in manually.

  14. I’ve gone ahead and proposed blog posts to two US bloggers I know were looking for some. I’ve got them drafted and just need to give them a once over before sending them off. Thanks!

  15. Michele says:

Very good advice! I don’t write guest posts for other’s blogs but would welcome well written posts from others.
