Ok, I probably shouldn’t admit this, but when Heelys first came out I thought they were absolutely obnoxious. There were children on those dang blasted wheeled shoes cutting me off everywhere I went . I hated them so much that I banned my daughters from asking their dad for them. When my, now 12 year old, daughter came home with a pair I made her donate them. I just couldn’t escape these annoying shoes!
Well, I will now hang my head in shame, and tell you all I was WRONG about Heelys! They are actually really neat shoes. It was the parents letting their kids use them in inappropriate places not the shoes. So, I apologize Heelys. You are actually a great shoe, that my youngest daughter thinks are the best thing since sliced bread! The Heelys HX2 is a great shoe that even those that are not exactly graceful can learn to use and enjoy!
Getting my youngest daughter to wear her new shoes was, um, well, interesting. She is 9 years old, but still doesn’t know how to roller skate. She has tried many times, but always ended up on her bootie, so she gave up! Enter Heelys to save the day! She was a little wary about wearing them at first because of her fear of wheels, but slowly but surely she became more confident with them. I had her watch the Skating 101 videos that Heelys provides so she knew what she was doing before she started.
She started out wheeling around the kitchen table with her wheels on. Then she would go up and down our side walk, there was some bootie landage there, but she was a trooper. Within just a couple of weeks of trying and trying, she was finally able to skate all the way around our neighborhood walk ways! That’s over a mile! I couldn’t have been prouder of her! I also couldn’t catch up to her as she glided around the neighborhood in her Heelys HX2!
If I would let her, she would sleep in her Heelys. She wears them when we go for walks around the neighborhood. She loves the colorful eyelets on the shoes and loves to sport them without the wheels at the store. They have not only taught her how to skate, but it has improved her balance and her confidence.
Mom loves the fact that Heelys are cute! They have sizes for all ages, which actually shocked me. My daughter is still trying to convince me to get a pair! They have high tops, sneakers, fat wheels, 2 wheels, and every color under the sun. They really have a pair to fit every member of your family.
It’s exciting that my daughter is so in love with her Heelys HX2s, but what I am stoked about the most is that she is a lot more confident in trying new things!
