As you guys know my daughter Bayla has horrible allergies. She not only has environmental allergies like dust mites, mold, and cats, she also has food and outdoor allergies as well. Ever since she was really little we have joked that she belongs in a bubble.
Well, all joking aside, we really have to be vigilent in making sure that our home is free of anything that is going to set her allergies or asthma off. I recently read a great article from Lisa Beres, a healthy living expert, on how common things around the household can be very irritant to people that suffer from allergies. Here are some of the most helpful tips that I found:
HEALTHY HOME TIPS
Cooking: Prevent lingering or offending odors from lingering through the house. Upgrade your filter to Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter.
Damp Towels: To avoid mildew, make sure towels are hung up properly to dry. This will help avoid the development of mildew, and reduce the chances of mold and mildew in your home
Pets: Banish pet odors in your home by bathing your pets weekly. This will help discourage those pesky pet odors from staying in your home.
Candles and Air Freshners: Instead of buying artificial candles, use 10 drops of essential oils in water. A lot of artificial air freshners can contain chemicals that are irritants to those with allergies.
I loved all of the tips that Lisa had. A lot of them we already use in our home, like the damp towels tip, but others I didn’t know would help. After hearing Filtrete filters had a positive effect on people with allergies, I tried to learn more about them.
