You Sunk My Battleship

“You sunk my battleship!” This used to be the cry heard from my siblings as I decimated their carrier fleets while playing the classic Hasbro game Battleship. It was always a pleasure to be victorious, not so much for my siblings. I have so many good memories of playing this game as a child, that I was really excited to see that Hasbro had released a new version of the game.

With the upcoming Battleship movie, May 2012, Hasbro has released a movie edition of Battleship. Instead of the normal ship configurations, this time it’s aliens versus humans. It resembles the Battleship game we played as kids, but with some updated twists.Battleship: The Movie Edition 

The game comes with five alien ships and five Navy ships plus the red and white pegs to keep track of your hits and misses. Something that is new to this version is mission cards that make the game a little bit more exciting. You can play the traditional way just guessing grid coordinates or you can choose a card each turn. These cards tell you things like shoot twice or scan row A. It will defintely speed the game up and make it a little different than the traditional game play.

One of my favorite upgrades to the new game is that the game itself is its own carrying case. My children are apt to losing game parts. It’s a sure fire way to ruin a game quickly. Everything for the latest edition of Battleship fits in the boards and they clip together to become a carrying case with handle. We haven’t lost a single part yet.

Get in the Battleship spirit with Kre-O

If you have a little builder in your family, they are going to be really excited about this new toy. Kre-O has also released a line of new Battleship inspired toys. We were able to take a look at the Kre-O Battleship chopper, and we were really impressed.

When we got the box, I figured it would be my kids fighting over it. Actually, it was my husband. We barely had it in the house before he was assembling the chopper. I swear sometimes I have four children.

Ok, I have to admit that the Kre-O chopper is pretty cool. It has some really awesome parts including moving helicopter blades. There is a button on the side of the chopper that you push and the blades spin around. There are also missiles on the chopper that you can actually shoot. Those I am just waiting for my bulldog to think are treats, but they are pretty neat accessory for the toy.

The chopper comes with 174 pieces including an alien and a helicopter pilot. Its recommended for ages 7-14 and works with other leading brands as well. That way, your kids can add it to other brands they may already have.

Kre-O also has two more Battleship inspired sets: Alien Strike and U.S.S. Missouri. They both include characters from the movie.
